#DADADAY2021: Dada Digital commemorates International Women’s Day in style

Partnering with the National government through Kajiado North Sub-County’s Social Development Department and the County Government of Kajiado, Digimatt Solutions, a digital creative agency, through its subsidiary Dada Digital organized Dada Day. Dada Digital which is a digital space where women’s voices are supported and amplified provided the opportunity for the women in Embul-bul village in Ngong, Kajiado North Sub-County, to celebrate the international holiday with a two-day event from 7th to 8th March, with lots of activities geared towards promoting women empowerment. The hashtag for this particular event was #DADADAY and #DADADAY2021

Graced by different partners who offered a variety of services, the two-day event featured A Dada soccer tournament, free medical check ups, free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening, free Legal Aid clinics, financial empowerment and advice, Sensitization on: Teenage pregnancies, FGM, Gender-based violence, family planning, Menstrual Health & Hygiene.

The event kicked off mid-morning on Sunday, when the chief guest, Nadia Ahmed Abdalla ,Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for  ICT, Innovation and  Youth Affairs, arrived.

She gave a compelling speech on why girls should be focused towards achieving their dreams and should put in lots of effort to make it happen. She then proceeded to flag off the female football tournament that involved six local teams from Kajiado North playing at the Embul Bul Primary School field.

Speaking during the ceremony, Boniface Gor ,CEO and Founder of Digimatt Solutions,DadaDigital and Binti Sports, said that the event was meant to bring together women to unwind and mingle.

On the same day at the Kasoro Bahari Football stadium, less than 300 meters from the school, were tent booths set up by different organizations offering a variety of services. Janice Cholerton Medical & Cancer Hospital had a tent set up for free Cancer and Cervical cancer screening as Trinity Care Centre offered free medical check ups. Marie Stopes Kenya had a booth to advice people on sexual health and family planning. A community based organization, A Pack A Month, also had a set up and offered advice on menstrual Health and Hygiene and provided sanitary pads.

Tenakata, a business technology platform designed to empower small businesses, had a booth for financial advice as the Youth Enterprise Development fund also had one for activation of loans. The Law Society of Kenya and the Kenya School of Law had one offering probono legal services.The Kenya Girl Guide Association Kenya, Young Leaders aided with ushering the event and had an exhibition booth where they displayed their programs.

On the second day of the event, the first lady of Kajiado county, Edna Lenku, graced the event and officiated the International women’s Day ceremony at Kasoro Bahari stadium , where the tent booths had been placed. other guests at the ceremony included Kajiado North Mp, Joseph Manje , Samuel Seki , County executive for Gender, Tourism, Wildlife, Youth and Sports, Assistant Deputy Commissioner 1, Bathsheba Osiemo among others.

Other partners that supported the event include Kabz foundation, Coca Cola, Learn and Grow, Forum 4 Women, Xtreme media solutions, Yali Leadership Centre, Mohype Digital, Domus Radio, Cakes and Bouquets by Jackie ,Sunrise Africa Merchants, Inspire Teenagers Foundation, Manje Foundation, Story Moja and 24 Security. All activities were undertaken in strict conformity with the Ministry of Health’s safety directives to curb the spread of the Corona Virus.

The International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year around the world. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights, empowerment and championing for gender equality. The United Nations began celebrating the day in 1977 and to this date the day has always been set aside to celebrate women. This year, the world observed the ceremony under the UN theme “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” highlighting the impact that girls and women worldwide had as health care workers, caregivers, innovators and community organizers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hashtags #IWD2021,#ChooseToChallenge and #InternationalWomensDay guided the conversation.
